Lash Lift vs. Lash Extensions: Which Is Right for You?

Lash Lift vs. Lash Extensions: Which Is Right for You?

Quick verdict: Choose a lash lift if you want a low-maintenance, natural enhancement of your own lashes. Choose lash extensions if you want noticeably fuller, longer, more dramatic lashes and don't mind a refill every few weeks.

What is a lash lift?

A lash lift is a semi-permanent curl that lifts your own lashes from the base — think of it as a perm for your lashes. No extensions are added. It opens up the eyes, lasts six to eight weeks, and requires zero daily upkeep. Pair it with a lash tint for a no-mascara everyday look.

What are lash extensions?

Extensions are individual fibers applied to each natural lash for added length and fullness. At L'Essence you can go Classic, Hybrid, or Volume Glamour depending on how dramatic you want to go. They look incredible — but they shed with your natural lash cycle, so a refill every two to three weeks keeps them full.

Which should you choose?

  • Pick a lash lift if you love your natural lashes, want minimal maintenance, or are trying lash services for the first time.
  • Pick extensions if you want maximum length and volume, have an event coming up, or enjoy a fuller, more glamorous look year-round.

Frequently asked

Which lasts longer, a lash lift or extensions?
A lash lift lasts 6–8 weeks with no upkeep. Extensions last indefinitely but need a refill every 2–3 weeks to stay full as your natural lashes shed.
Which is more low-maintenance?
A lash lift. There's no refill schedule, and after the first 24 hours you can wash your face and wear mascara normally.
Are lash extensions or a lash lift better for sensitive eyes?
A lash lift is often gentler since nothing is attached to the lashes, but both are safe when done by a trained tech. Let us know about any sensitivities and we'll patch-test first.
